I Just Deleted 40% Of My Articles — Here’s Why

At the beginning of June 2020, I joined Medium and started to experiment, seeing if I could really make money by doing something I loved — writing!

In the beginning, although I had very few followers and wasn’t yet a writer for any big publications, I had some success and my articles were actually of really high standard.

This was proven to me when my fourth ever article was selected to be published in The Ascent Publication, one of the biggest publications on the platform with over 145,000 followers.

As I grew in confidence and my writing improved, I started to lose sight of why I joined Medium in the first place. You see, I joined the platform because I genuinely love writing and I’m fascinated that there’s a platform which enables people like me (amateur writers) to publish our own work and even earn money for it.

However, as time went on, I started to get more and more fixated on the financial side of writing. I wanted to see just how much money I could make from my writing. Inevitably, as I churned out more and more stories, the quality of my work went way down.
